We from chiong from 1pm to 4.45pm sia(well i was late so i reached at 2pm lol).

RAW DENIMS?

Yes? No? Never mind let me explain.

What are Raw Denims?

Raw denims, also known as dry denims, are denims that unwashed and unprocessed denims, and being sold right after production. In other words, raw denims are denims in its "freshest" state.

Why Raw Denims?

Usually, denims are washed before being sold. This is to eliminate further shrinkage and appearance changes, so that the owner could simply wash the denim without worrying about not being able to fit,or colour fade, after wash. Often for these denims, you will see that they already have creases and whiskers on them, to give them a 'worn look'. These are done by artificial processing.

On the other hand, raw denims are sold unwashed. And why would people prefer that way, you ask? Because for raw denims, after constant wearing, creases will develop naturally, like the ones at the area around the knees. These are caused by your daily activities : Jumping, walking, sitting, etc. This is to allow owners to create patterns and portray their uniqueness in the denim, and giving the denim a natural 'worn' look. After constant wearing, the denim will eventually shape and form on to your body shape.

What to pick?

Okay.
Sometimes you get people telling you to get at least an inch bigger when buying raw denims, since it's gonna shrink when you wash it. However, I do not recommend that. I would advise that you pick a size that feels tight on you.

Yes. Tight.

But of course, not to the extend that you couldn't breathe. The reason is because after wearing it for some time, raw denim will slowly stretch to fit comfortably. This way, the denim would be able to properly form with your body.

Cleaning

In general, it is recommended raw denims should not be washed until at least after 6 months.

Yes, 6 MONTHS! I'm not kidding. Because over time the parts which are being 'distressed' - knee area, thigh, back of jeans, ankle area - would get worn and lose indigo, while the other parts of the jeans would not, as a result, the pattern created by the creases/whiskers/'honeycombs' would be much more obvious due to the contrasts.

If you wash it too soon, all the efforts you put into creating patterns would be put to waste, because washing it causes the overall denim to fade, and the contrasts would not be as obvious.

If you are worried about the denim shrinking after washing, then don't wash it at all! I'm not kidding again! If your denim stinks, spray some odor eliminator, otherwise put it in the freezer to remove the odor. If you really need to clean your denim, go for dry-clean.

If you really really really really want to wash your denim. Wash it cold. Washing it in hot water will only cause your denims to shrink A LOT. That's what I did with one of my raw denims. This is because I accidentally bought the denim jeans an inch bigger. It was supposed to be Skinny, but it ended up loose and slightly baggy on me. So I soaked it in hot water intentionally, it did shrunk. Now it fits perfectly as a Skinny jeans.

If your raw denim is Sanforized, you should not have to worry too much about it shrinking, it's already pre-shrunk. After the wash it would not shrink that much.

Another method is to wear your jeans and get soaked in your bathtub(if you have one), preferably for an hour or two. This is so that it would shrink to fit your size.

Another washing tip. If you are going to wash your raw denims for the first time, WASH IT ALONE. DO NOT WASH WITH OTHER STUFFS, ESPECIALLY WHITES. When you wash your raw denim for the first time,some of the dye may come off, and if you do wash with whites(shirts or whatever), be prepared to watch them turn blue.

DO NOT HEM YOUR RAW DENIMS BEFORE THE FIRST WASH(unless you planned to not wash your denims AT ALL). After first wash, the length will ALSO shrink/shorten.

One more tip:

DO NOT FOLD YOUR RAW DENIMS. It will cause unwanted marks/patterns on your denims. Always try to hang them instead.
